Abstract
In this study, the names of old villages in Siirt province were evaluated from a geographical point of view and natural and human factors which are effec ve in naming villages were examined. As it is known, throughout history, Anatolia has been the site of many different cultures and se lements; This has led to the emergence of an extremely diverse and rich material in terms of place names. We can see a similar richness in place names in the Siirt province of Southeast Anatolia. As a ma er of fact, one of the most reflected areas of the cultural richness of the Siirt province, which was se led by Turks, Arabs, Kurds, Armenians, Syriacs, Chaldeans and Yezidis throughout history, is the name of the villages. Today, there are 281 village se lements connected to Siirt province and the names of the villages, which are the result of thousands of years of cultural accumula on, have been changed due to the fact that they were not Turkish at the beginning of 1960's. However, when new names were put in place, some mistakes were made because most village names were not changed in accordance with the old meaning and away from scien Şc methods. This work, which is viewed from a different point of view, focuses on the old village names. In the study, historical sources and linguis c experts were collected, interviews and interviews were conducted with village residents, Şeld observa ons were made, and old village names were examined in the framework of the principles of science of topo- nomy
