Abstract
Vitamins E and C are known to play an antioxidant role in the organisms. Oxidative stress plays an important role in the creation of the complications of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The aim of our study was to compare glycosylated haemoglobine (HbA1c) and glutathione (GSH) levels in 20patients with type II DM who were given take 1000 mg of ascorbate and 400 W of alpha-tocopherol daily at different periods with the same type II DM patients who take placebo. The amount of the glycosylated Hb and blood glutathione were measured at the first day just before taking vitamins, first month and second month by usingglyco-quick and capillary electrophoresis respectively. The values of HbA1c were decreased and GSH levels increased significantly after vitamin treatment for the first and second months. The values of both HbA1c and GSH levels after one and two months usage of placebo, were still without a significant difference (p>0.05). Comparison of the Vitamin taking group (n=20) with the plasebo receiving group (n=20) showed that the glycosylated haemoglobine formation was decreased (p
