Bu çalışmanın amacı Türk dünyasında yerleşik hayata geçmiş ve göreceli olarak yakın zamanlara kadar göçebe olan Türk boyları arasında tor veya başköşe kavramlarının ifade ettiği simgeselliğin sürekliliğini ve bu simgeselliğin tarihi ve güncel sosyo-kultürel bağlamlardaki anlam üretici gücünü ve statü yapıcı işlevini ortaya koymaktır.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show continuity between tor and başköşe concepts among the Turkish tribes of the Turkish world. Turkish culture is a hierarchical culture and tor or başköşe symbolizes the highest respect to old, wise people and guests. Tor is a specifically designed part of yurt or the traditional Turkish tent which is used by the nomadic or semi nomadic Turkish tribes, the counterpart of tor is başköşe in the traditional Turkish house that is used by the settled Turks. Tor or başköşe as a symbol, has the power to produce meanings and to act as a statue maker, in historical and current socio-cultural contexts.
