Abstract
In this study, we purposed to compare the effects of desflurane and sevoflurane, which have different fat/blood and blood/gas partition coefficients, on the peroperative Bispectral Index (BİS) changes and postoperative recovery characteristics in patients undergoing elective surgeries with intermediate durations, according to the sex differences. 160 ASA class I-II patients aged between 20-60 years were included in the study. Patients were randomly divided into four groups as DES F, DES M, SEVO F and SEVO M according to sex and selected volatile anesthetic agent. Perioperative bispectral (BIS) index, postoperative time for endtidal concentrations of volatile agents to decline 50 % (ET-AA%50), time for extubation, eye opening and orientation, time for BIS index values to reach control values were all recorded in all groups. Aldrete scores in early postoperative period and error points of delayed memory recall test (DMRT) in delayed postoperative period were determined. There were no statistically significant difference between groups according to demographic parameters, duration of operation, BIS values (p>0.05). ET-AA%50 time, extubation and eye opening time in male and female patients in desflurane group were shorter than sevoflurane group and these results were statistically significant (p
