Abstract
Twentyfour to ninety percent of patients who received general anaesthesia and endotracheal intubation suffer from sore throat in postoperative period. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of benzydamine hydrochloride on preventing postoperative sore throat. Eighty ASA I-II patients were divided into benzydamine and control groups by using randomized double-blind method. Control group patients were given topical saline solution while patients in the study group received benzydamine hydrochloride. In recovery room, patients were evaluated for sore throat at rest as well as during swallowing at 24th, 48th, 72nd and 96th hours. Sore throat at 24th and 48th hours in recovery room was significantly less in patients who received benzydamine hydrochloride compared to the control group patients (p
