Approach to agitation during the early postoperative period in a young male subject

Özet

Genel anestezi sonrası derlenmenin erken fazında dakikalardan saatlere kadar sürebilen bellek ve yüksek serebral fonksiyonlarda bozulma gözlenebilir. Postoperatif kognitif bozuklukların en çok bilinen formu olan deliryum; oryantasyon kaybı, dikkat ve belleğin bozulmasıyla karakterize gün içinde değişim gösteren akut konfüzyonel bir durum olarak tanımlanır. Bu olgu sunumunda, genel anestezi altında fonksiyonel endoskopik sinüs cerrahisi ve septoplasti gibi bir minör ameliyat geçiren genç erkek olguda, derlenmenin akut fazında gelişen deliryumun tanı ve tedavisi ile postoperatif kognitif bozukluklarla ilgili tanım ve kavramlar gözden geçirilerek literatür eşliğinde sunulması amaçlandı.

Abstract

Impairment in the memory and high cerebral functions extending from minutes to several hours might be observed following general anesthesia during the early phase of recovery. Delirium which is the most well-known postoperative cognitive disorder is characterized by the loss of orientation and deterioration of attention and memory and described as acute confusional state persisting for weeks or months after surgery. In this case report, we aimed to present the diagnosis and treatment of delirium observed in a young male subject during the acute phase of recovery following general anesthesia for a minor surgery like functional endoscopic sinus surgery and septoplasty in accordance with the terms and definitions of postoperative cognitive disorders by reviewing the literature.
