Abstract
Orhan Veli was born in Istanbul on April 1914. Orhan Veli who had a deep interest for French attracted the attention of his teachers. His first poems were published with his friends Oktay Rifat and Melih Cevdet Anday in the Varlık Magazine. He used the pseudonym` Mehmet Ali Sel` in some of his poems. The Three friends start to give examples for the poetry of `Garip` in the 15th September 1937 edition of theVarlık magazine which would be a reform in the Turkish Literature. The`Garip` movement is an expression of a reaction against the philosophyand understanding of poetry that came before this movement. Whilethis research was being carried out, all the types of nouns in OrhanVeli`s book , `All his poems` were detected by us and it was found outthat the poet used 5865 nouns in all his poems. According to theclassification that we have made, approximately 65% of these nounsare concrete nouns. This shows that the poet does not write emotionalpoems and he gives importance to reality as he is impressed by thereal life and the problems of the people. Orhan Veli clearly describesthe daily life during the Second World War with more concrete nouns. It is possible to see slight irony in these poems. It is as if Orhan Veli issecretly enjoying himself with the events of the real life in most of hispoems. We believe that this research is a philological research that israrely done in the Turkish Literature. In our research, we tried to knowand understand Orhan Veli; a poet who made a reform in the TurkishLiterature according to some artists and intellectuals and for others apoet to be reviled.
