Abstract

This study seeks to examine the primary schools in terms of schools’ readiness for children. The study is a qualitative case study and “jumbled single case” pattern was applied. Comprised of 21 primary school teachers, the study group is selected by means of criterion sampling method, which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. The data are gathered through interview forms in the second term of the 2017-2018 academic year and analyzed by using descriptive analysis methods. The findings of the study demonstrate that the teachers’ views on the physical readiness of the school are categorized under the headings of “classroom arrangements”, “physical safety measures” and “arrangements for shared spaces.” The study indicates the following headings related to teacher readiness: “professional experience”, “personal characteristics”, “communication”, “curriculum knowledge”, “classroom management”, “material development and use of technologies” and “personal and professional development.” The teachers state that they consider the activities of “information meeting for parents”, “home visits”, “trips to surrounding areas” and “pre-school parent interviews” as successful transition to school practices carried out in schools.
