Abstract
This article deal with the meanings that Karabâş-ı Velî deduced from the FirstFour letters of the Arabic Alphabet in the light of Ibn Arabi’s Perspective. Bythis approach, Karabâş-ı Velî tries to present the relationship between Allah, universe, human beings, and Qur’an in the eyes of the Sufis. His main argu- ment is the wisdom of “Kuntu kanz … (I was a treasure)” reported as a sacrednarration in the Sufi literature. He correlates every word of this tradition withthe first four letters of the Arabic alphabet. He then shows the connection ofevery correlation with the stations of the body in the world of existence andthen with the Sufi stations of shari’ah, sufi path (tariqa), knowledge of Allah(ma’rifah), and the Truth (haqiqah) in the world of values. Thus the author notonly offers his view about existence by means of the letters of the alphabetbut also looks for the foundations of people’s moral ascendance in this stateof existence. According to the author, the knowledge which ascends humanbeings can be achieved by realization of Divine attributes and names in theirown existence, and the aim is a complete unification of the trinity of existence, knowledge, and value by means of this method.
