Abstract

Having a wide host range, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is fed with many vegetables such as the tomato as well as potatoes, eggplant, peppers, beans and also with weeds like nightshade and jimson. This pest’s success of switching between different hosts in terms of the spread has an important place. In this study, the numbers of eggs laid on both tomato and eggplant plants of the T. absoluta adults fed separately on tomato and eggplant plants during larval stage were compared with the number of larva and pupae becoming adult from these eggs and the number of individuals having managed to become adult. With this aim, the adults fed on tomato and eggplant plants separately during larval stage were still to be separately provided to lay their eggs on the plants. Being released 24 hours later and removed from cages, the eggs, left on the plants, were counted. As a result of the study, it was determined the host exchanges’ effects on the biology of this pest. Thus, useful information that can be used in the methods of struggling against this pest was tried to achieve
