Abstract
In this study, to examine the rate of perceived exertion level in the extension and flexion position of the elbows in push-up applications with traditional and suspension device (TRX) by comparing them with mechanical sway. Twenty-eight female athletes (age: 20.89 ± 2.07 years; height: 166.34 ± 0.04 cm; body weight: 57.52 ± 6.29 kg) between the ages of 18 and 25, and 33 sedentary females (age:19.75 ± 2.04 years; height: 163.66 ± 0.05 cm; body weight: 54.97 ± 6.12 kg) participated in this study. A total of 71 volunteers participated in this study. For both push-ups, the elbows are weighted in the extension and flexion positions for 30 seconds. After the application, the position was evaluated with the modified rate of perceived exerti- on scale. A total of five accelerometers, including wrist, shoulder blade, and lumbar region, were used to detect mechanical sway. Both types of push-ups were compa- red in terms of rate of perceived exertion and mechanical sway. In the suspension device, the highest degree of perceived exertion level was felt in the elbow flexion position, while the greatest sway occurred. In the traditional push-up application, while the elbows felt the least perceived exertion level in the extension position, the least sway occurred. As a result of examining the relationship between the rate of perceived exertion level and mechanical sway, it has been determined that as the perceived exertion level increases, the mechanical sway also increases. Especially for beginners, the order of progression from easy to difficult can be recommended in the form of traditional push-up extension, traditional push-up flexion, suspen- sion device push-up extension, and suspension device push-up flexion.
