Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the change of total body water (TBW) and body composition during menstrual cycle, and the influence of drinking water on body impedance measurement and its effect on the change of Total Body Water (TBW) and body composition. Sum of skinfold tickness (SST) measured at seven sites of body, and impedance measured by foat-to-foot Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) were recorded in 23 healthy women subjects(ages = 20-32 years, height = 162.03±6.67 cm, body weight (BW) = 55.99±6.08 kg, Body Mass Index (BMI) = 21.30±1.75 kg/mj during their three phases of menstrual cycle (M=Menses phase, MF=MidfoUicular phase, L=Luteal phase), and pre (PreW) and post (PostW) intake water of 2.0% body mass. Body fat percent (BF%) and fat free mass (FFM) estimated by impedance measurements. TBW estimated by two different regression models. There were no significant difference in body weight, BF%, FFM, and impedance among phases (p>0.05). SST in M phase was significantly higher than MF and L phases (p0.05). There was no signifcant change of TBW during three phases of menstrual cycle (p>0.05). The Model x Phase interaction was nonsignificant on TBW (p>0.05). Comparing the PreW condition, the effect of the PostW condition on the BW, BMI and impedance (PreW = 558.82 ± 45.01, PostW = 573.95 ± 46.21 ohm) were significantly higher (p
