Abstract
In the Second World War, the posters were effectively used by the Axis Powers (Germany, Japan, Italy) and Allied Powers (USA, UK, USSR) for propaganda purposes. In this process, propaganda posters had an important role in creating the enemy and friend perceptions in the public opinion of the countries. Especially, it was known that the Italian Social Republic (1943-1945), led by Fascist Leader Benito Mussolini, in the influence of Nazi Germany, used propaganda posters in creating the enemy and friend perceptions. In this study, eight propaganda posters from the 58 most effective propaganda posters in the period of the Italian Social Republic which were determined by Musil Brescia were analyzed, using the purposeful sampling method in creating the enemy and friend perceptions, using the semiotic analysis which is one of the qualitative research methods. The analyzed posters were examined in the dimension of detonation and connotation revealed by the French Semiotician Roland Barthes, and tried to explain the secret messages to be given on the posters. In addition, while the enemy perception was being created within the posters, it was tried to show which metaphors were used, which metonym were utilized, and which myths were tried to be constructed in creating the enemy and friend perceptions.
