Abstract
Although philosophy during the classical period of Islamic civilization covers all branches of science, the place of medicine among other sciences and its relationship theoretical part of philosophy in particular is not clear. This paper aims to analyze the relationship between these two disciplines on the basis of Ibn Hindû's (d. 423/1032) Miftâh al-tibb {The Key to Medicine). Ibn Hindû, an important figure of philosophical and medical circles of 10th and 11th centuries in Islamic civilization, examines all philosophical sciences according to need of a physician and at the end of his work, gives a list of basic logical, philosophical and medical terms for the students of medicine.
