Özet
Bu çalışmada Platon'un felsefesinde cesaretin kavramsal içeriğini belirlemek ve hangi anlamda erdemli hayatın temellerinden olabileceğini sorgulamak amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaca bağlı olarak, "cesaret nedir?", "cesaretin nesnesi nedir?" "cesaretin bilgi ile ilişkisi nedir?", "cesaret eğitim konusu mudur?"gibi sorulara yanıt aranmıştır.Platon cesaret ile ilgili görüşlerini çeşitli eserlerine serpiştirilmiş biçimde ele almıştır. O bu eserlerinde oldukça geniş bir tartışma alanı sunar. Sokrates'in ölüm karşısındaki tavrından önemli ölçüde etkilenen Platon, özellikle erdemli kişinin kötülük karşısında ne yapması gerektiğini konu edinir. Böylece cesaret hem bireyin hem de devletin temel erdemlerinden biri olarak açığa çıkar. Bu bağlamda diğer erdemlerle ilişkisi içinde cesaret, etik ve politikayı birleştirici bir işleve sahiptir. Onun işlevi, erdemli bireyin ve ideal devletin yetkinliğini korumak ve sürdürmektir.
Abstract
It has been aimed in this study to designate the conceptual content of the courage in Plato's philosophy and to interrogate in what aspects could be a basis for virtuous live. Depending on this aim, it had been studied to find the answers to the questions such as "what is courage?", "what is the subject of the courage?", "what is the relation the courage with the knowledge". Plato had discussed his opinions related to the courage dissipatedly in his various works. He presents quite detailed a discussion field in this works. Plato, who is affected from the attitude in the face of the death of Socrates, especially researches the courage of virtuous man in the face of the evilness. By this way, the courage manifests as a basic virtue both for the individual and for the state. The courage regarding to the other virtues submits a content associated ethics and politics. The function of tl^e courage is preserving and maintaining the perfection of the virtuous man and the virtuous state.
