Abstract
Human beings have attempted to understand what is happening around them since their existence. Questioning the meaning of life started mainly with the science of Philosophy. After this questioning, which started with the existentialist philosophy movement, it became the main subject of existential psychology and existential psychotherapy. People who are not directly related to Existential Philosophy or Existential Psychology have also questioned the meaning of life in relation to death. The meaning of life is a problem situation for today’s people who do not know what to do in their increasing times, reach satisfaction quickly, and suffer from existential problems. The aim of this study is to evaluate psychotherapy theories and approaches in the context of the meanings given to life. Assessment Psychoanalysis, Individual Psychology, Analytical Psychology, Existential Psychotherapy, Logotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychotherapy are within the scope of theories and approaches. While evaluating these psychotherapy and approaches, the opinions of the people who make up each theory or who have contributed greatly to the theory have been mainly used. To summarize the meanings of theorists to life with a concept, Freud expressed it as libidinal, Adler as social, Jung as spiritual, Frankl as the very path to meaning itself, Yalom as coincidental, and Positive Psychotherapy as attachment-goal and happiness. E. Berne, the founder of Transactional Analysis theory, and W. Glasser, the founder of Reality Therapy, approached the meaning of life with the concepts of “quality world”. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), on the other hand, focused on behaviors in parts rather than the meaning given to life.
