Following the Crusades, image of the Turk was based on the dichotomy of Christians and Muslims;when Istanbul w as conquered, Westerners started regarding Turks as the representative of the Eastand Islam. Turkish -Ottoman -Islamic images were first used in musical plays (singspiel). Musical plays areshown as the starting point of opera in Germany or Austria. The first example of "Turkish themedoperates"amongtheseplaysistheworkofJohannesorHansRosenplüt's"DesTurken Vasnachtspil" (1453).
