Abstract
In this study, HSV2 IgM and IgG seropositivity were detected in 68 patients (mean age: 35) who applied to Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of TCDD Ankara Hospital with different symptoms or without symptoms and 20 patients (mean age: 33) as control. EIA (Meddens Diagnostics B.V., The Netherland) was used for the detection of HSV2 IgM and IgG antibody. HSV2 IgM seropositivity was found to be 6.8%, IgG seropositivity was found to be 12.5% in 68 patients. In the sera of only one patients both IgM and IgG were found to be positive. HSV2 IgM and IgG were detected in 4% the patients with chroronic cervicitis and cervical erosion-ectropion in 14.5% and 29% of the patients with acut cervicitis and cervical erosion-ectropion and in 10.7 and 20.4% of the patients with chronic cervicitis plus cervical erosion-ectropion and in 6% and 12% of the patients with vaginitis and finally in 5% and 12% of the control group respectively. As conclusion, patients should be tested for HSV2 profiles before the pregnancy, since high seropositivity rates of antibodies can be detected in patients with no symotoms.
