Abstract

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the learning profiles of students taking French as a second foreign language at the two following departments: the department of English Language and Literature, a branch of the Faculty of Letters and Science, and the department of English Language Teaching, a branch of the Faculty of Education, Pamukkale University. In this respect, the focus was placed upon the effort to determine whether or not there exists a meaningful correspondence between the language learning profiles of the students and variables such as the first foreign language (L1) they learnt, gender, class and high schools they graduated from. The population of this research which was carried out as a general survey model consists of 209 students from first, second, third and forth classes. In carrying out this research, “The Foreign Language Learning Scale” was used. It was first developed by Özçelik (2013) and tested for its validity and reliability. It has been observed that the majority of students has been motivated mainly by future expectations, career goals and academic developments to give due consideration to the second foreign language learning, and they have adopted effective attitudes towards language learning.
