Abstract

Objectives: The hypothesis is widely accepted that prevalance of psychological symptoms especially depressive disorders increases in the menopausal period. In case of emotional disorders in menopause, it's thought hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is preferred rather than psychotropic treatment. Effect of HRT was aimed on psychological condition. Materials and Methods: 73 postmenopausal women of whom 33 took continue 17p-estradiol and noretisterone acetate for at least 6 months and 40 took nothing accepted into the study. Depressive symptoms were calculated using Hamilton Depression Scale (HDS). The scores were compared on the basis of HRT usage, age, menopausal age and HRT administration methods. Results: Depressive symptoms increase but is not significant in accordance with age and menopausal age. HRT isn't cause decrease in HDS scores. There is no significant relation between HRT administration method and HDS scores. Conclusion: HRT does not significantly improve depression parameters defined as HDS.
