Recurrent Intracranial Hydatid Cyst in an Adolescent

Özet

Serebral hidatik kist hastalığı nadir görülen bir siklozootik enfeksiyondur ve çocuk yaşgrubunda daha sık izlenir. Öncesinde herhangi bir hastalığı olmayan ve sağ fronto-parietalbölgede dev hidatik kist nedeniyle cerrahi müdahale olan 18 yaşındaki bir ergen hasta buradasunulmaktadır. Ameliyattan 10 ay sonra, hasta sağ parietooksipital bölgede tekrarlayanintrakraniyal hidatik kist tanısı almıştır. Albendazol tedavisi ile oldukça belirgin düzelmeizlenmiştir. Hidatik kist hastalığı Türkiye'nin kırsal kesimlerinde halen önemli ve ciddi birhastalık olup, uygun tedavi ve komplikasyonların yakın takibi gerekmektedir.

Abstract

Cerebral hydatid disease is a rare cyclozoonotic infection, being more common in thepediatric population. A previously healthy 18-year old boy is presented here, who had asurgery for the removal of a giant hydatid cyst in the right fronto-parietal region withoutrupture. About 10 months after surgery, he was diagnosed as recurrent hydatid cyst deep inthe right parieto-occipital region. Medical therapy with albendazole was effective in treatmentwith a very good outcome. Hydatid cyst is still a common and serious disease especially inrural parts of Turkey, which requires a proper treatment and close follow up for anycomplications and recurrences.
