SİNEMADA SOSYAL SINIF OLGUSUNUN YEMEK ÜZERİNDEN AKTARIMI: SNOWPIERCER FİLMİNİN GÖSTERGEBİLİMSEL ANALİZİ

THE TRANSFERENCE OF SOCIAL CLASS IN CINEMA THROUGH FOOD: A SEMIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF SNOWPIERCER'S FILM

Özet

Toplum içerisinde sahip olunan maddi kaynaklar, kültürel konum ve yaşam biçimleri kısaca bireyin sosyal hiyerarşi içinde bulunduğu yer sosyal sınıf kavramıyla açıklanmaktadır. Sosyal sınıf kavramı her ne kadar bahsedilen bu unsurlar bağlamında kendini açıklama imkânı bulsa da, sosyal sınıfların temelinde yemeğin önemli bir rolü bulunmaktadır. Sosyal sınıf kavramının yemek üzerinden aktarımları incelendiğinde, fizyolojik ihtiyaçların ötesinde toplumsal yapı ve sosyolojik olgular hakkında çeşitli anlamsal aktarımlara sahip olduğu görülmektedir. Diğer taraftan sosyal sınıf olgusunu farklı boyutlarla irdeleyerek toplum yapısını görünür kılan bir aktarıcı olarak karşımıza sinema çıkmaktadır ve sinema, gerçeğin aynası olarak da ifade edilmektedir. Bu açıklamalardan hareketle sinema, sosyal sınıf ve yemek kavramları arasındaki belirgin ilişki dikkat çekmiş, bu üçlü bir bütün olarak düşünülerek mevcut çalışma planlanmıştır. Bu plan çerçevesinde sinemada gösterilen sosyal sınıf olgusunun yemek üzerinden aktarımı araştırmanın amacı olarak belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada Snowpiercer filminde yer alan sosyal sınıf öğeleri yemek üzerinden aktarılan göstergeler aracılığıyla göstergebilimsel teknikle incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda Snowpiercer filminde adaletsiz gıda tayini, sınıf hiyerarşisi, etik tüketim, pazarlık üstünlüğü, prestij, sınıf ayrımcılığı güçlü ve zayıf karşılaşması alt-üst sınıf karşılaştırılması, sürdürülebilirlik ve gıdaya ayrıcalık erişim gibi göstergelerin yer aldığı tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract

The material resources, cultural position, and lifestyles in the society are briefly explained by the concept of social class, where the individual is in the social hierarchy. Although the concept of social class has the opportunity to explain itself in the context of these factors, food has an important role in the basis of social classes. When the transfer of the concept of social class over food is examined, it is seen that it has various semantic transfers about social structure and sociological phenomena beyond physiological needs. On the other hand, cinema emerges as a transmitter that makes the social structure visible by examining the phenomenon of social class with different dimensions, and cinema is also expressed as the mirror of reality. Based on these explanations, the significant relationship between the concepts of cinema, social class, and food attracted attention, and the present study was planned by considering this trio as a whole. Within the framework of this plan, the transfer of the phenomenon of social class shown in the cinema through food was determined as the aim of the research. In the research, the social class elements in the movie Snowpiercer were examined with the semiotic technique through the signs conveyed through the food. As a result of the research, it has been determined that there are indicators such as unfair food allocation, class hierarchy, ethical consumption, bargaining superiority, prestige, class discrimination, strong and weak encounter, lower-upper class comparison, sustainability, and privileged access to food in the movie Snowpiercer.
