Abstract

Magnesium (Mg++) is a metallic cofactor that participates in metabolic pro¬cesses essential for life. The reductions in mortality and in the incidence of left ventricular failure were seen in LIMIT-2 Trial. The mechanism underlying this ef¬fect is still not clear. It has been suggested that Mg improves ventricular function. There are no studies in which left ventricular functions (LVF) were directly meas¬ured. This study was undertaken with the aim of determining the effects of IV Mg administration on systolic and diastolic LVF in patients with ischemia heart dis¬ease (IHD). Overall a statistically significant increase in fractional shortening was observed after infusion of Mg (p
