Matematik Uygulamaları Dersini Seçen Ortaokul Öğrencilerinin Derse İlişkin Görüşleri

Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, matematik uygulamaları dersini seçen 5, 6, 7 ve 8. Sınıf öğrencilerinin bu derse ilişkin görüşlerini ortaya koymaktır. Bir tarama araştırması olan çalışma, İzmir ili merkezinde üç farklı ortaokulda öğrenim gören ve bu dersi seçen 80 öğrenci ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerle elde edilmiştir. Görüşme soruları ile öğrencilerin matematik uygulamaları dersini seçme nedenleri, bu dersten beklentileri ve bu beklentilerin ne ölçüde karşılandığı gibi görüşlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesi, betimsel analiz yöntemleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrenci cevapları betimsel kodlara dönüştürülerek kategoriler oluşturulmuştur. Buna göre, öğrencilerin matematik uygulamaları dersini seçme nedenleri, ilk yıllarda aile faktörü ile açıklanabilirken son sınıflara doğru not ortalamalarına yapacağı katkının belirleyici olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrenciler, dersten beklentilerinin ortaokulun ilk yıllarında eğlenerek öğrenme yönünde ve son sınıflara doğru ise çoğunlukla matematik dersi başarısına katkı sağlaması yönünde olduğunu ve dersten beklentilerinin karşılandığını ifade etmişlerdir. Öğrenciler, bir sonraki yıl matematik uygulamaları dersini tekrar seçmeyi düşündüklerini belirtmişlerdir.
Abstract
This study was performed in order to present opinions of 5, 6, 7, and 8th grade students on electiveapplication of Mathematics course. The research is a survey research. Working group of the researchincludes 80 students at 5, 6, 7, and 8th grade. Students were chosen three different schools in İzmirCity. Open-ended questions developed by the researchers, data were collected with semi-structuredinterviews. With the questions, it was aimed to determine opinions of students on reasons of choosingthe course and expectations from the course. Data obtained from semi-structured interviews wereanalyzed by descriptive analysis method. Answers of students were categorized by transformingdescriptive codes. Findings of the study are those; especially 5th grade students chose this course fortheir families wanted, but the other students chose the course to take a higher note. Expectations of the5th and 6th grade students have fun while learning, but the other students want to increase theirmathematics success. Students presented positive opinion about course and think choosing the courseagain.
