Abstract

n this report, clinical samples of the patients with respiratory system infections were evaluated using bacteriologic culture methods. In-vitro susceptibility of the isolated bacteria to different quinolones were investigated and the results were compared. Of the 150 pathogen bacteria that were included in the study 97 (64.7%) of them were gram negative bacilli and 53 (35.3 %) of them were gram positive cocci. The most frequently isolated gram negative bacilli and gram positive bacteria cocci were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicilline sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) respectively. When in-vitro activity of the quinolones were compared, the most active one against gram positive cocci was moxifloxacin (98.2 %) and it was followed by levofloxacin (95.2 %), ciprofloxacin (78 %), and ofloxacin (77.6 %). The most active quinolone against gram negative bacillus was ciprofloxacin (76.2 %) and it was followed by moxifloxacin (71.5 %), levofloxacin (71.1 %), and ofloxacin (60.7 %).
