Abstract
Financial costs are an important problem in Hepatitis B vaccination. In this study, the effects on immunity of the half (5 meg hepatitis B vaccine was applied at 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 9th months) and full dose (10 meg hepatitis B vaccine was applied at 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 9th months) hepatitis B vaccine were compared. These two groups were also given the other routine childhood vaccines (DPT, Polio and measles). HBV serologic markers in serum samples were determined with micro-EIA. Eighteen children not having HBsAg, anti-HBs and anti-HBc total positivity were administered HBV vaccine of yeast origin (Hepavax-Gene). Serum samples were obtained for serological and biochemical tests one month after each vaccination. At 10th month, there was 100% seroconversion in both groups and anti-HBsAg levels of 17 children were protective (100IU/L). For this reason, half dose HBV vaccination with poliomyelitis and DPT were found suitable for routine administration and booster dose of vaccine nine months after birth, produced a higher immune response.
