Abstract
3-D Navier-Stokes equations are the fundamental tool for modelling the laminar and turbulent character of the flow. The numerical solution of the equations to study large scale problems has gained considerable attention in recent years. The size of the problem considered necessitates the utilization of parallel computing. A second order accurate implicit scheme, both in time and space, is deyeloped and implemented for parallel solution of incompressible, unsteady 3-D Navier-Stokes equations. A modified version of the two step fractional method is used in time discretization of the momentum equation which is implicitly solved for the intermediate velocity field at each time step. A flow field is resolved with less number of points while taking large time steps. The pressure at each time level is obtained via an auxiliary scalar potential which satisfies the Poisson's equation. The Domain Decomposition Technique is modified and implemented separately for parallel solution of the momentum and pressure equations using non-overlapping matching sub domains. Lid-driven flow in a cubic cavity with Reynolds number of 400 and 1000 is selected as a test case to demonstrate the accuracy and the robustness of the method used. The solution domain is divided into 2, 4 and 6 sub domains. Time accurate solutions are obtained with time steps 5 times the step size of a stable explicit method. Super-linear speed-up is achieved with the modified Domain Decomposition Technique.
