Abstract

Plastics made of polymers are -widely used almost everywhere. Properties of the technical plastics have been developed together -with technological development. So that they can be used in the mechanical construction. Because of their many advantages such as chemical resistance, ability for dry sliding, high damping properties, low friction coefficient, lightness, plastics can be used under thepv limits -with high reliability (p: mean surface pressure, v:sliding speed). The widely use of plastics has to become necessary to know their tribological behaviors. In this study, the friction coefficient and surface temperature of oscillating radial sliding plastic bearing have been studied experimentally. Oscillation angle is 45 °. Five different mean bearing pressures and five different oscillation frequencies are carried out in experiments. Friction force between plastic bearing-steel shaft is measured by means of force transducer, then friction coefficient are calculated. Temperature of contact area is also measured by means of thermocupl which are placed in the hole drilled on the axis direction in the bush as possible as near the rubbing surfaces. The measuring systems have % 3 errors. Bush material is UHMWPE. It has $phi60xphi50x50$ mm. dimensions. It is seen that friction coefficients increase while sliding speed increases and they decrease while mean bearing pressure increases.
