Abstract

In this study, the objective is to develop a methodology to optimize the vibration behaviour of a washing machine while early in the design phase. The mechanical model of a washing machine is the modelling problem of a multi-body mechanical system. It is very difficult to find a reference in literature which has a mechanical model directly established for a washing machine. In this work, a vibration model of the washing machine is constructed between 0-400 Hz frequency range. In the first step, the washing machine is considered to be a lumped parameter multi-body system. In the second step, the material properties (Young's modulus, lost factor, density) of the components are measured. In the third step, the numerical models of the elastic components are formed in the free-free boundary conditions with Finite Element Method. In the forth step, to validate the numerical model, Experimental Modal Analysis is performed on the elastic components. In the fifth step, vibration behaviour of the connecting elements (spring, damper etc.) are determined by using experimental methods and modelled. In the sixth step, the Component Mode Sythesis Method is applied when establishing the over all vibration model of the washing machine. In the seventh step, to validate established model of the washing machine, a series of numerical analyses and measurements are done.
