Abstract

In the recent years, a number of construction methods, which transferred from contemporary countries, are applied in Turkey. Naturally, before applying them, it is important to investigate their applicability: proposed design methods have to be approved by earthquake experiences. Connection details of the structural systems have to be capable to resist earthquake effects. Some of them are constructed in the earthquake prone areas and it is seen that they performed successfully against earthquake excitations. In this study, a new structural system, which consists of composite insulated sandwich panels, is introduced. The construction details, material components and structural design guides for the lateral loads are provided. Composite insulated sandwich panels are formed of three layers. Outer layers are constructed of concrete reinforcing wire mesh and they are surrounding the insulation layer. Some advantages of the system can be enumerated as follows: lightness of the structural system, the homogeneity and the good quality of material, short period of the construction time and good lateral rigidity. In this study, a new structural system, which consists of composite insulated sandwich panels, is introduced. Structural design guides for the lateral loads are given. During the calculation process for rigidity, flanged sections formed by the connection of intersecting walls or by adding returns at the ends of walls are taken in to account. Shear coefficient values are obtained for different bf/tw ratios. Here bf is being effective width, tw is being web thickness of the wall section. Rigidity values obtained are compared with Finite Element Modelling solutions.
