Abstract

During the study, 13 goats were treated with progesterone (FGA) containing vaginal sponges for 16 days and, 500 IU PMSG was injected with the re¬moval of sponges. In the second group sponges were administered to 13 goats for 11 days and on the 9th day PGF2OC and on the 11th day PMSG were enjected. The same synchronisation of the 2nd group was used on 8 goats during anoestrus (3rd group). The time from the removal of sponges till the onset of oestrus were 25.9+4.51, 60.0+10.95, 36.0+0.00 hours respectively according to the groups. Duration of oestrus were 30.51+ 13.51,33.2+5.75, 16.8±6.57, hours and synchronisation rates were 100 %, 100 %, 62.5 % respectively. In all groups progesterone levels were more than 1 ng/ml during progesterone treatment. This level decreased rapidly to levels below 1 ng/ml during the beginning of oestrus in the 1st and 2nd groups and at 12th hour of oestrus in the 3rd group. In the 3rd group LH peak was seen at the beginning of oestrus whilst it was at the 12th hour of oestrus in the 1st and 2nd groups. The fertility rates determined by blood progesterone levels at the 20th day of pregnancy were 61.5 %, 38.5 % and 50.0 %. Birth rates were 23.1 %, 23.1 %, 37.5 % respectively. At the end of the study, it is concluded that progesterone- $PGF2_alpha$ combination can be an alternative technique to other synchronisation techniques.
