Abstract
In this study, the effect of the sauna-induced hyperthermia on the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) was investigated in chronically alcoholic-addicted rats. Two tracers; Evans blue (EB) and sodium fluorescein (NaFl) were used to evaluate differences concerning on the permeability during experiments. The amount of tracers in the samples from left hemisphere, right hemisphere, cerebellum and brain stem was estimated using quantitative method. Our results showed that, in all the selected brain areas, the permeability of the BBB to the EB and NaFl increased in the sauna-induced hyperthermia in the alcohol-addicted rats more intensively than chronic alcohol and hyperthermia groups. The findings indicate that both chronic alcohol and hypertermia can be mediator to increase the breakdown of the BBB in the course of the sauna-induced hyperthermia in chronic alcoholic rats.
