Abstract

Ceftriaxone treatment efficacy in spontaneous acitic fluid infectium. Spontaneous ascitic fluid infection (SAI) is a common and possibly fatal complication of liver cirrhosis. The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of ceftriaxone, one of the third generation cephalosporins, which has a broad spectrum against bacteria responsible for SAI and make possible single daily dose treatment. 40 patients, who were admitted to the Emergency Department of the Medical Faculty of Istanbul were included in the study. They all had known parenchyma! liver disease with a ascitic fluid neu-trophil count $geq$250 cells/mm3. They were treated by a single daily dose of 2g IV ceftriaxone regimen. The treatment was discontinued after 5 days, if the ascitic fluid neutrophil count was found to be
