Abstract

The prognosis of the advanced paranasal sinus malignancies are generally poor. It the tumor invades the inferior surface of the cribriform plate and roof of etmoid complex, it is theorically accepted to spread intracranially via skull base. The major reason for the poor prognosis of such extensive tumors of the paranasal sinuses is the local recurrence engendered by inadequate resection. Craniofacial resection offers a solution to this problem by providing "en block" resection of the ethmoid sinus and cribriform plate. In this report we present 4 cases of paranasal sinus malignancies treated by craniofacial resection in our clinic and discuss The advantages and the possible complications carried along with this technique.
