Abstract

The effect of losartan on the plasma level of prolactin, thyrotropin (TSH), and cortisol in patients with mild and moderate essential hypertension. In this study, we aimed to investigate serum levels of prolactin, thyrotropin (TSH) and cortisol in patients having mild and moderate hypertension, to compare with healty subjects, and to investigate changes -of levels of these hormones after treatment with losartan, which is an angiotensin receptor blocker. 40 mild and moderate hypertensive patients (24 women, mean age; 51.2+8.7 years) followed in our center and 20 healthy subjects (7 women, mean age; 50.1±14.6 years) as a control group were inclu¬ded in this study. Blood pressure of the patients were measured in the sitting position in accordance with "The Sixth Joint National Committee" report10. Serum prolactin, cortisol and TSH levels were measured by Kodak VITROS ECI Immunodiagnostic machine and Chemiluminescent Immunoassay method. SPSS 10 software was used for statistical evaluation of the data. Student-t test and chi-square test were used for statistical evaluation of quantitative and qualitative values, respectively. P
