Abstract
The Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program aims to combine and coordinate evidence-based perioperative care interventions for standardizing and optimizing surgical care. ERAS protocols have provided significant clinical benefits in a range of several surgical subspecialties. In conjunction with clinical benefits, it has been suggested that ERAS reduces hospital costs through shorter hospital stay and reduced morbidity. Nevertheless, few studies have evaluated the cost-effectiveness of ERAS programs. Herein, the aim of this review is to review the literature about the effect of ERAS implementation on health costs in several surgical procedures and present the most recent data about this topic.
