Abstract

Religious interpretation is not an independent variable. For this reason, theology cannot be seen as a reliable index in explaining the religious formations. It ıs not maintainable to look at as if theology is everything. But definitely it is not also true to say that theology is nothing. Sometimes it becomes difficult to separate theology from ideology. It is only possible with some records to explain today?s Shia Sunni tension through Theo political elements by establishing a link between Shia theology and Shia politics or Sunni theology and Sunni politics. There are more secular reasons behind Shia Sunni tension than theological ones. We can summarize those reasons as follows: Middle East is in a process of serious pursuit. During depression times, reference to religious identities become more intense. Middle East regimes have been experiencing a legitimacy crisis. This problem is tried to be compensated by means of a Theo political rhetoric. Especially the regional power struggle between Iran and Saudi Arabia is realized through sect identities. Sects and religious factors are covers referenced to cover up geostrategic and power fights. The problem within the Middle East is not a sect fight but hegemony fight.
