Abstract
The commodity occupies an important place in the concept of capitalism. Marx often emphasizes the commodity and says that the capitalist cycle begins and ends with the commodity. The consumer rapidly consumes the commodities offered to him and then searches for commodities to be consumed again. This environment created by the consumption culture of capitalism brings with it many problems. The problem of individualism is also one of the most important. The concept of consuming has started to have vital importance for the consumer who consumes the promises of the consumption culture along with the products. In this direction, the study aims to reveal whether the concepts of capitalism, consumer culture, and individualism are handled in the film, in the context of the concept of individualism created by the consumption culture of capitalism. The problem of the study is to determine how these concepts are put forward, in other words, what the criticisms of these concepts are in the film. The discourse analysis method was used in the study in which the movie The Platform was chosen as the sample. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the film offers important criticisms of capitalism, consumer culture, and individualism. However, it has been concluded that change cannot be spontaneous, requires effort, and can be together with the other, not alone. In addition, at the end of the movie, it was determined that the role of the savior of society was given to a child and that the child was the only hope for the future.
