Abstract

Seventy-three Gram-negative basilli were isolated as agents of infection from the ear drainage specimens of 142 patients diagnosed as chronic suppurative otitis media. Proteus spp. (3.42 %) and Pseudomonas spp. (31.5 %) were the most frequently isolated agents. The antibiotic sensitivities of isolated Gram-negative bacilli were investigated by disk diffusion method using 14 antibacterials. The most effective antibacterials were ciprofloxacin (92 %) for Proteus spp.; and ciprofoxacin (95.6 %) and imipenem (95.6 %) for Pseudomonas spp.
