Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the features of urinary infections in the post-renal transplantation period. A total of 155 urinary specimens taken from 45 renal transplant patients were studied for the presence of urinary tract infection. Seventeen urinary tract infection episodes were detected in five patients. Among these patients, two had ureteral stent, one developed lymphocele, and two were given antirejection therapy at different times after transplantation. No predisposing factor was observed in one patient. The most frequently isolated microorganisms were Pseudomonas spp, coagulase-negative staphylococci and enterococci. Twelve (70.5%) episodes in early, and five (29.5%) episodes in late posttransplantation period were observed. As a result, considering the predisposing factors, clinical features, and patient and graft survey, posttransplantation antibiotic prophylaxis for urinary tract infections is recommended.
