(1 %) idi. Katalaz testinin yüksek duyarlılık ve seçiciliğinin yanısıra, basit, ekonomik ve hızlı bir yöntem olması nedeniyle, idrar yolu infeksiyonlarının optimal tanısında önerilmektedir.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the catalase test as a screening method in the diagnosis of urinary tract infections. Three hundred eighty-two urine specimens were tested for cells and bacteria by using a commercial dipstick, a catalase screening test, standard culturing, and chamber count. Both the culture and the leukocyte counts were used as reference tests for the evaluation of the catalase test. The sensitivity and specificity of the catalase test were 98.4 % and 85.4 %, respectively. The most frequently isolated microorganism was Escherchia coli (53 %), followed by Klebsiella spp. (17 %), Enterobacter spp. (9 %), Proteus spp. (6 %), Pseudomonas spp. (5 %), Staphylococcus aureus (5 %), Enterococcus spp. (4 %) and Corynebacterium spp. (1 %). The use of the catalase test is simple, economic, and rapid method providing advantages due to its high sensitivity and specifity values and offers optimum diagnosis of the urinary tract infections.
