Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the presence of chromosomal beta-lactamase and Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) in clinical isolates of nonfermentative gram-negative bacteria. Totally 51 strains were studied: 22 Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 14 Pseudomonas flourescens, four Burkholderia cepacia, four Weeksella virosa, seven Acinetobacter baumannii. Double disk synergy method for the detection of ESBL and direct induction method for the CBL activity were applied. Cefoxitine and imipenem were used as inducer agents. ESBL activity was found to be positive in six (11.8%), and CBL in 33 (64.7%) of the strains.
