Abstract

In this study, 6 cases of brucellosis with pancytopenia (%6) out of 100 brucellosis patients hospitalized in the Clinic of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology in a three-year period are reviewed. All of these patients were first hospitalized in the Clinic of Internal Medicine for the differential diagnosis of hematological diseases. With antimicrobial therapy of brucellosis, improvement in the hematological manifestations was seen in three weeks in all six cases; and erythrocyte, leucocyte and thrombocyte counts and hemoglobin values returned to normal at the end of the treatment. These patients are retrospectively reviewed to emphasize considering brucellosis in the differential diagnosis of pancytopenia due to the fact that this disease is frequently seen in Turkey.
