Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, istanbul İli'nde yaşayan sağlıklı çocuklardaki hepatit E virus (HEV) infeksiyonu seroprevalansını belirlemekti. Yüzatmışaltı çocukta HEV'e karşı çıkan özgül antikorlar (IgG ve IgM) enzime-bağlı immunoassay kiti ile araştırıldı. Denekler üç yaş grubuna ayrıldı. Grup I: 5-8 yaş, Grup II: 9-12 yaş, Grup III: 13-15 yaş aralığındaki çocuklardan oluşuyordu.
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the seroprevalence of hepatitis E Virus (HEV) infection among healthy children in Istanbul. A hundred and sixty-six children were tested for specific antibodies against HEV (IgG and IgM) by commercial enzyme-linked immunoassay kit. The children were separated to three age groups; Group I: 5-8 years, Group II: 9-12 years and Group III: 13-15 years. Of 166 sera 5 (3%) were positive for IgG indicating previous exposure to HEV. None of the sera were positive for IgM. All of the positive results for antibodies to HEV were obtained from children older than nine years of age. The exposure rates were 0% in children in Group I, 3.8% in Group II and 5.0% in Group III. This study, carried out with sera rollected from economically and socially different parts of Istanbul, showed that the seroprevalance of HEV is equal to that in the nonendemic regions of the world.
