Investigation of the Extra Scholastic Variables Explaining Students' Success on Placement Test via CHAID Analysis

Öğrencilerin Seviye Belirleme Sınavı Başarılarını Açıklayan Okul Dışı Değişkenlerin CHAID Analizi İle İncelenmesi

Özet

Tarama modelinde olan bu çalışma öğrencilerin SBS yerleştirme puanı başarılarını açıklayan okul dışı faktörlerin neler olduğunu incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada 2009'da 6. sınıf, 2010'da 7. sınıf ve 2011'de 8. sınıf SBS'ye katılan öğrencilerin SBS başarı puanlarını açıklayan değişkenler CHAID analizi ile belirlenmiştir. Araştırmada 1011159 öğrenci arasından 50000 öğrenci bölgelere ve cinsiyete göre tabakalı seçkisiz olarak belirlenmiştir. Yapılan CHAID analizi sonuçlarına göre öğrencilerin SBS başarılarını en iyi açıklayan değişkenin "7. sınıfta özel dershaneye gitme durumu" olduğu bulunmuştur. Diğer açıklayıcı değişkenlerin ise "baba öğrenim düzeyi", "anne öğrenim düzeyi" ve "okuduğu kitap sayısı" olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır

Abstract

The aim of this survey study is to examine the out of school factors that explain students' success in the placement test score. In this study variables that explain success of sixth grade students in 2009, seventh grade students in 2010 and eighth grade students in 2011 placement tests were determined by CHAID analysis. In the research 50000 students were picked out of 1011159 students by using stratified random sampling method according to district and gender. In accordance with CHAID analysis results, the most explicatory variable for students' success in placement test is determined as "condition of going to a private teaching center during the seventh grade". "Fathers' educational background", "mothers' educational background" and "number of books that students read" are also found as other explicatory variables.
