Özet
Terakki-i Muhadderat, 1285 yılında -miladi 1869'da- Terakki gazetesinin ilavesi olarak çıkan kadınlar için hazırlanmış ilk yayındır. Adı, "örtülü, namuslu kadınların ilerlemesi" manasındadır. Ali Raşit tarafından yayınlanan bu ilavede; kadının eğitimine odaklanılmış, ev içindeki konumu pekiştirilmek ve bununla birlikte eş ve anne olmak konusundaki eksiklikleri giderilmek istenmiştir. Bu bakımdan geleneksel bir bakış açısının hâkim olduğu Terakki-i Muhadderat, kadınlara eş olmaları dolayısıyla adap öğreten, kısa, öz makaleler, hikâyeler içermektedir. Ayrıca kadınlardan gelen mektuplara da ilavede sıklıkla yer verilmiştir
Abstract
Terakki-i Muhadderat was the first publication prepared for women, that waspublished as the supplement of the Terakki journal in 1285 (1869 in Gregorian). The namemeans “the progress of covered, honorable women”. In this supplement published by AliRaşit; women’s education was in focus and their deficiencies in terms of being a wife andmother was tried to be removed and their position in the house was tried to be reinforced.Terakki-i Muhadderat, where a traditional point of view is dominant in this respect, includedshort articles, essays, stories, teaching manners because they are wives. In addition, lettersfrom women were frequently given place in the supplement.In this study, letters sent by women to the Terakki-i Muhadderat supplement wereexamined. The purpose is to be an interpreter of the wishes and desires of women in thefirst supplemental newspaper published for them through their letters. It is also desirable toreveal what is the point of view of this first supplement published for them.In this study that can be evaluated within the scope of qualitative historicalresearch, all the letters sent by women to Terakki-i Muhadderat were identified and theideas and thoughts in these letters were examined under separate themes and interpreted.In the examination conducted, it was determined that women were more concerned aboutthe need to education in the letters they sent. They also stated that they were pleased withthis supplement for them and that they had the difficulty of understanding what was writtenbecause of the language and style of the supplement. There are also letters that the womenhave felt discomfortable about the males impugning women’s decency and manners andthat women providing news about the events happening in their own regions.
