Abstract

A new genus of annular and aggluttinated larger Foraminifera Vania n.gen. (type Vania anatolica n.gen. n.sp.) from the neritic Thanatian of Van region (E Turkey) is described and figured. This new form, which belongs to the family Dicyclinidae Loeblich and Tappan, occurs also in the Thanatian of the Ankara, Sivas (Central Turkey), Malatya (E Turkey), Bolkar mountains (Central Taurus belt) and Hakkari (SE Turkey). The differences with the other genera showing comparable structures are discussed.
