Abstract
In power generation applications, high performance levels are achieved for gas-turbine systems by means of gas/steam combined cycle. Because the system involves the coupling of a topping Joule cycle to a bottoming Rankine cycle, the overall system performance will be influenced by the design parameters of both the gas turbine engine and steam power plant. Consequently, optimum performance of the combined cycle is achieved only if the gas turbine and steam turbine cycles are properly matched. In the present work, internal combustion gas turbine engine has been coupled with single pressure steam power plant. Cooled gas turbine model has been included in the analysis. The effects of compressor pressure ratio and gas turbine inlet temperature on overall performance of the combined cycle has been investigated. Results showed that, the increase in overall efficiency of combined cycle is achieved by increasing the gas turbine inlet temperature. In combined-cycle applications, lower compressor pressure ratio values compared to that for simple gas turbine systems would be more attractive where peak overall efficiency and specific work output of combined-cycle power plant are maximized, and cost of electricity generation is minimized.
