Coğrafya Öğretmenliğinin Öğrenci Tercihi Açısından YÖK Atlas Verilerine Göre Değerlendirilmesi: Marmara Üniversitesi Örneği (2016-2020)

EVALUATION OF GEOGRAPHY TEACHING IN TERMS OF STUDENT PREFERENCE ACCORDING TO THE HIGHER EDUCATION PROGRAM ATLAS DATA: THE CASE OF MARMARA UNIVERSITY (2016- 2020)

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, Marmara Üniversitesi Coğrafya Öğretmenliği Programını tercih eden öğrencilerin profillerini ve eğilimlerinibelirleyerek programın mevcut durumlarından hareketle geleceğe yönelik değerlendirmeler yapmaktır. Araştırmada nicel araştırmayöntemlerinden betimsel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Çalışma evrenini 2016-2020 yılları arasında Marmara Üniversitesi CoğrafyaÖğretmenliği Programına yerleşen öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Veriler, üniversite adaylarının tercih yaparken faydalanmaları amacıylaoluşturulan YÖK Lisans Atlasından oluşturulmuştur. Elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerinanalizinin yapılmasında Excel, ArcGIS ve SPSS paket programı kullanılmıştır. Bulguların raporlaştırılması; frekans, yüzde değerleri vegrafikler aracılığıyla betimsel tarzda yorumlanarak sağlanmıştır. Cinsiyet dağılımında erkek öğrencilerin fazla olduğu, öğrencilerinönemli bir kısmının Marmara Üniversitesi’nin olduğu ilde veya yakın illerde yaşadıkları tespit edilmiştir. Lise türünde, Anadolu Lisesimezunu öğrencilerin yoğunlukta olduğu, ülke geneli tercih edilme durumunun ve öğrencilerin ilk üç sırada tercih etme oranının azaldığıbelirlenmiştir. Bunun yanında öğrencilerin Coğrafya Öğretmenliği Programından daha çok Türkçe Öğretmenliği Programını tercih ettiğisonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgu ve sonuçları göz önüne alındığında, Marmara Üniversitesi Coğrafya Öğretmenliği Programınıntaban puanları ve taban başarı sıralamalarındaki düşüşün nedenlerine yönelik çalışmaların yapılması önerilmektedir.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the profiles and tendencies of the students who prefer Marmara University Geography Teaching Program and to make future evaluations based on the current status of the program. In the research, descriptive survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The population of the study consists of the students who were placed in Marmara University Geography Teaching Program between 2016-2020. The data in this research were created from the Higher Education Program Atlas (the YOK Atlas), which was created for university candidates to benefit from when making a choice for a university. The data obtained were analyzed by using the content analysis method. Excel, ArcGIS and SPSS package program were used to analyze the data. When reporting the findings, the data were calculated as frequency, percentage and graphically and interpreted in the findings in a descriptive manner. It has been determined that there are more male students in gender distribution, and a significant portion of the students come from the province where Marmara University is located and the surrounding provinces. In high school variable, it has been determined that there is a high density of Anatolian High School graduates. However, the country-wide preference and the rate of students' preference in the first three places have decreased. In addition, it is concluded that the students preferred the Turkish language teaching program rather than the geography teaching program. It is recommended to carry out studies on the reasons for the decrease in the base scores and base success rankings of the Marmara University Geography Teaching Program.
