Abstract

Dental trauma resulting in root fracture is a rare condition that affectsup to 7% of permanent teeth, and injury to immature teeth is evenrarer. This case report aimed to show the prognosis of a horizontalroot-fractured immature maxillary incisor traumatized at the time oferuption.Because of an accident, a 6-year-old boy was referred to our clinicwith horizontal root fracture of the permanent maxillary left centralincisor associated with an extrusive luxation. The coronal segment wasrepositioned, and a dental splint was applied for 7 weeks. After 48months, clinical examination revealed a positive response to electricalpulp testing and an absence color change of the tooth. Continuationof root development and calcification of the coronal pulp space wasobserved radiographically. It was concluded that fixation of teeth is aconservative treatment for immature teeth with horizontal rootfractures, resulting in the pulp vitality and spontaneous healing withno other treatment.
